Easy Way Out Calzones
For this one, I took inspiration from a recipe I saw whilst surfing the web and added my own touch. These are an easy, delicious alternative to pizza and great for weeknight dinners.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Make the dough per package instructions or take the ready made dough and form four balls. Roll each ball out until thin and round.
- 2
Add 1/4 cup sauce to each, spread it evenly and then add the toppings and cheese.
- 3
Fold them up into pockets shaped like half moons. Make sure they are sealed up well so they don’t burst while baking. You can use a little water and a fork to press the edges down and don’t be afraid to pinch them either. Cut a few slits in the top for venting purposes.
- 4
Soften the butter in a microwave safe bowl, 30 seconds at a time. Add the pepper, garlic powder and oregano, and mix well.
- 5
Place the finished calzones on a foil lined, greased sheet pan, seam sides down. Brush the butter generously on top of each one.
- 6
Throw a little parmesan on top and bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
- 7
Let them rest for a few minutes then enjoy!

My #cooksnapdiprimavera is dedicated to @cucinareserenamente, who tempted me with her quick calzones. I made a few tweaks to her dough recipe by using more rustic flours, and for the filling, I used what I had at home. I made 6 calzones with two different fillings: one with smoked salmon, Greek yogurt, and asparagus with a hint of lemon for a delicate flavor, and the other with leftover tomato sauce and cheese with a touch of oregano for a pizza-style filling. Both turned out great and are perfect for a quick, last-minute dinner idea!Follow me, Sweetly Elvie, on Instagram, Cookpad, and Facebook 👩🏻🍳🌮 Marcella Sweetly ElvieTranslated from Cookpad Italy
