Ingredients

120 minutes (including beef cooking time)
Serves 3 servings
  1. 2 1/3 lbsbeef shank
  2. 1onion
  3. 1daikon radish
  4. 1carrot
  5. 4 slicesginger
  6. 2green onions
  7. 8 clovesgarlic
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 2 teaspoonsSichuan peppercorns
  10. 3 tablespoonscooking wine
  11. 2star anise
  12. 2bay leaves

Cooking Instructions

120 minutes (including beef cooking time)

    Wash the beef shank and blanch it in boiling water with green onions and ginger for about 2 minutes. Remove, rinse with water, and drain.

    Place the blanched beef shank in a pot with chopped daikon, carrot, ginger slices, green onions, onion, Sichuan peppercorns, bay leaves, and add 8 1/2 cups (2000 ml) of water. Cover the pot, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for 90 minutes.
