Whenever i cook parwal, i m always remembered of my sundarban visit in kolkatta. We had stayed in a cottage where the simple but very tasty dishes were prepared by local village women. The gravy is not the same as cooked by them, but taste is no less.

Ingredients

  • 8-10parwal
  • 1-2potato
  • 2-3tomato
  • 4green chillies
  • As Requiredginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsppoppy seeds soaked in milk
  • 1 tbspmelon seeds ground
  • As Per Tastesalt
  • 1/4 Spoonturmeric powder
  • 1/2 Spoonred chilli powder
  • 1/2 Spoonkitchen king masala
  • 1 tbspmustard oil
  • pinchasafoetida
  • 1/4 Spooncumin seeds

Steps

  1. 1

    Peel,wash and cut parwal lengthwise

  2. 2

    Peel, wash and chop potato

  3. 3

    Heat up pan add oil and saute potato for 5 mins

  4. 4

    Add parwal also and saute both for another 5 mins on med flame

  5. 5

    Make a paste of tomato, gr chilli,ginger andgarlic

  6. 6

    Take veggies out of pan and add asafoetida and cumin to oil

  7. 7

    Put tomato puree and cook

  8. 8

    Add all masalas then add poppy and melon paste

  9. 9

    Wcen cooked add veggies,salt and mix

  10. 10

    Adjust consistency with water or milk

  11. 11

    Finally malai can also be added for a rich creamy gravy

  12. 12

    Enjoy the meal and have a nice day
