I still remember the first time I went to the cinema with my family in middle school. Mom bought me churros to eat. I was amazed at how delicious they were! How could a movie snack be so good? (Because I don't really like popcorn, haha~) From then on, I fell in love with the taste of churros. However, a churro at the cinema isn't cheap, even with a movie ticket. So, I decided to try making them myself! It turned out to be much easier than I thought, and the ingredients are quite common. Now, I can enjoy delicious churros at home. Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

Melt the unsalted butter, water, sugar, and salt over medium-low heat until it boils, then turn off the heat.

  2. 2

Sift the all-purpose flour into the boiled butter mixture and stir with a spoon or spatula to form a dough.

  3. 3

Add the beaten egg and mix well. The dough will become sticky.

  4. 4

Put the dough into a piping bag and pipe it onto small pieces of parchment paper. Be creative and pipe any shape you like! I made churros, rings, and U-shapes.

  5. 5

Heat oil in a pot to between 340-360°F. You can test the oil temperature by inserting a wooden chopstick; if bubbles form around it, the oil is ready. Fry the dough with the parchment paper for about 2-3 seconds, then the paper will easily separate from the dough. Fry until both sides are golden brown (about 2-3 minutes), then remove from the oil.

  6. 6

Prepare the cinnamon sugar. I didn't have fine sugar, so I used large granules, which didn't stick well to the churros. I recommend using finer sugar! Gently mix the granulated sugar with the cinnamon powder. Coat the churros with the cinnamon sugar after frying.

  7. 7

The unique aroma of cinnamon paired with freshly fried, hot churros is a perfect match. No wonder Americans love them so much. They're also commonly found at amusement parks abroad. I think churro rings look cute too. Next time you're craving something sweet, get creative and make your own churro dish!
