Ingredients

2 people
  1. Halfcup blackberry
  2. Halfcup brown sugar
  3. Halfcup water
  4. See also rose hip syrup
    California Farm Rose Hip Harvest
  5. See also peach syrup
    California Farm Peach Syrup
  6. Equipment: small sauce pan, kitchen scale, food mill, sieve, sterilized sauce bottle and mason jar
  7. Cost: berries $1, sugar 20 cents

Steps

1/2 hour.
  1. 1

    Boil sugar in water till dissolved, add berries, boil till soft.

    Pour through foodmill and sieve, press out the berries but leave the seeds behind, as seeds can spoil the syrup.

    Save in sterilized jar and bottle. Can be kept frozen year round.

My grandparents and parents taught me growing, cooking and preserving home grown fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats and fish. I got certified by the University of California Master Gardener Program in 2005. I try to bring out the original flavor of ingredients, then add layers of spices, herbs and flavorings that enhance, not distort the taste. These are the global, organic and vegan family recipes we use.
