Ingredients

  • 1 inchGinger crushed
  • with 4 clovesGarlic skin   crushed
  • 1tomato large sliced
  • tamarind a small ball
  • 2 tablespoonsoil
  • 1/2 teaspooncumin seeds
  • 1.5 teaspoonspepper roughly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoonchilly powder
  • 1/4 teaspoonturmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspooncoriander powder
  • 2 cupswater
  • 3 tablespoonsCoriander leaves chopped full
  • 2Asafetida a sprinkle or
  • to tastesalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak tamarind in 2 cups water. Squeeze the tamarind into the water. Keep aside.

  2. 2

    Heat oil in a pan, splutter the cumin seeds in it.

  3. 3

    Add crushed ginger and garlic. Let it start to turn brown.

  4. 4

    Add the sliced tomato, close with a lid for a few minutes, so that it cooks enough to blend in.

  5. 5

    Once it is cooked, add turmeric, chilly powder, coriander powder, pepper, salt and saute for a few seconds.

  6. 6

    Then strain the tamarind water through your fingers and add it into the pan. Bring to a boil.

  7. 7

    Add asafetida.

  8. 8

    Add chopped coriander leaves once you turn off the stove.

  9. 9

    Check for salt.
