Peas Pulao

Now here is a rice recipe that is basic and adds some flavour and colour than just plain white rice (which can be boring sometimes). We have pretty much stripped rice off our menu. This probably comes as a shock if you are an Indian reading this. Eating rice has become a restaurant thing or if we are invited to someone's home and they serve us rice, we eat it
All the rice that I have eaten from January this year until July probably equals the amount I would have eaten from the time I could eat solid food. It was absolutely abnormal, and I guess I found it complicated to make a different menu for me and then some rice for K. So we just decided to omit rice all together and have found alternatives that have worked so well thus far. We feel better by not eating rice for our meals :) However when a Sunday arrives, I try to make something nice and I made some Peas Pulao for lunch. Very flavourful and easy to put together. I made this in a pressure cooker

Steps

  1. 1

I used a pressure cooker, so if you have one use that, if you don't just use a deep pot that can cook rice

  2. 2

Add the cumin seeds to some heated oil. Next add the cardamom, bay leaf, cloves and cinnamon stick and allow them to flavour the oil. Give it a minute and add the minced ginger & garlic, green chillies and the onion and sauté until the onions are soft

  3. 3

Next add in the coriander powder and chilli powder and the frozen peas. Mix well and let the masala powders cook through. Add the 2 cups of soaked rice, 4 cups of water and the required amount of salt

  4. 4

If you are using a pressure cooker, allow this to cook for 2 whistles. If you are not, cook through until the water vanishes and the rice is nice and fluffy

  5. 5

ALTERNATIVE:** If you have an electric rice cooker. Follow the steps until the masala powders cook through and then transfer the ingredients from the pot into the electric rice cooker, along with the rice, water and salt - give it a good stir and let it cook!

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
