cook potatoes and onions until tender

drain reserving water

add butter and sour cream to potatoes, stir

add milk and half&half and enough reserved liquid to cover top of potatoes

simmer until thick and lumpy, stirring occasionally

add half of bacon, stir

serve with crackers or garlic bread.

garnish with remaining bacon, green tops, and cheese.
