Preheat oven to 180°F

Melt butter and syrup gently

Mix in brown sugar until disolved

Gently beat egg and add to mixture and mix thoroughly

Sift flour and spices twice

Fold through into mixture till even

If mixture is too sticky add a little more plain flour

Line biscuit trays with paper

Drop balls of mixture onto trays and flatten slightly with a fork

Bake in oven for 12 to 15 minutes until just golden

Allow to cool and ice if you wish

The lighter the finished colour the softer the biscuit
