In large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and shortening.

Stir in water; mix til dough is smooth.

Cover and let stand in fridge for 20 minutes.

Roll out on floured board til 1/8 to 1/4 in. thick.

Cut into 3 inch squares.

Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375°.

Fry til golden brown on both sides. (Spoon hot oil onto tops as soon as placed in oil).

Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Can sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
