Ingredients

35 minutes
20 servings
  • 1 cupall purpose flour /maida
  • 1/4 cuprawa / semolina / sooji
  • 1 teaspoonajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1 teaspooncrushed black pepper (kali mirch powder) - optional
  • 1 teaspooncumin seeds (jeera) - optional
  • 2 tablespoonghee
  • 1/2-3/4 cupwater
  • to tastesalt
  • as neededoil for frying

Steps

35 minutes
  1. 1

    Seive the flour, and salt together. add the ajwain.

  2. 2

    Mix the carom seeds add the ghee.

  3. 3

    Add water and start to knead the dough.

  4. 4

    The dough should not be soft, but a little tight and hard.

  5. 5

    Make the mathris in any shape

  6. 6

    For round shape make a small lemon sized balls

  7. 7

    Roll all with greased hands to make them smooth

  8. 8

    Roll with rolling pin in the shape of small poories of medium thickness

  9. 9

    Prick them partially with knife

  10. 10

    Fry the mathris in low to medium hot oil till browned and crisp.

  11. 11

    Serve mathri as a snack with indian chai or with punjabi mango lemon or red chilli pickle.
