I found this little trick very helpful when you have extra fresh basil around you want to save. I use my dried basil for seasoning my spaghetti and Italian dishes or add in to homemade ranch dressing or dips, etc.

Ingredients

  1. Fresh basil leaves removed from stems
  2. paper towels
  3. plate
  4. containermini airtight storage

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Gather fresh basil leaves and remove them from the stems.

  2. 2

Lay them out on paper towel lined plate making sure they aren't touching.

  3. 3

Place another paper towel on top of leaves and press down firmly. Place in microwave and heat for 20 seconds. Remove from microwave and press paper towel down again firmly onto basil. Place in microwave another 10 seconds. Repeat only until starting to shrivel a tad and dry. Note: some leaves will still be a bit green yet and contain moisture, this is okay. Be careful not to overcook or they will burn. No more than a minute total microwave time should be used.

  4. 4

Place leaves in a small container and leave open on counter for 3 days to continue drying process. You can now close container and store away. When ready to use, pull out 3 or 4 leaves and crumble into sauce or dip. Enjoy!
