But by adding more water, kneading the dough well, and letting it rest, I was able to make tender and delicious ones.The amount of water indicated is a guideline only. Please adjust the amount depending on the dough. If the dough is too hard, the chapatis will be hard and dry and not very good. My favorite soda bread recipe so far! Hearty bread in just 30 minutes. Whole wheat and bran makes it heartier and a lot more flavorful than white soda breads. It's so good with butter! I like to add in caraway, and sometimes other mix-ins like sunflower seeds and oats. If for some reason you can't get buttermilk, use a half milk/half yogurt mix instead. This recipe makes one small, manageable loaf. Felice
