They are so nice 😋With sesame oil they are like Chinese crispy ‘seaweed’ (which is actually greens 🥬)

Oh I used to love that Chinese seaweed!!

Me too! It’s usually spring greens but Kale doesn’t need as much oil to go crispy. It usually has fish on top (the sprinkle that looks like peanuts) although I didn’t know that until fairly recently 😬

I must try slat and vinegar version too! What kind of vinegar would you suggest to use Rachel?
Rachel

Thanks Yui, it’s because I like salt and vinegar crisps 🤣 I used a brown rice vinegar that I usually use when I make sushi. I thought I would try apple cider.

Definitely healthier than ‘crispy seaweed’ - I’ve never understood why it’s called ‘seaweed’ as it’s deep fried cabbage and/or kale?! I asked Sainsbury’s once and they said no idea but there is a picture of a dragon on the box and there are no dragons in it either 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 🤣

Haha, that’s funny Laura 🤣 I didn’t even know you could buy it from the supermarket! Even though crispy Kale is so easy, it’s the massage trick that’s the key as you can get away with a really tiny bit of oil. It means they are not greasy but they don’t burn.

It’s a super way to eat kale. Massage and heat helps tenderises the tough fibres and reduces bitterness. As healthy as it sounds it is not advisable to eat raw kale (even if massaged) as it contains oxalic acid which binds with minerals such as calcium and magnesium in the body causing them to crystallise which can damage tissue and cause inflammation.

Thanks for that info Laura, I didn’t know that. Luckily I don’t really like it raw! I’m planning on putting some in cakes today! I’m pairing with apples.

Hi Rachel if it's not to much trouble and you don't mind could you tell me how long that you are supposed to bake the Kale,🥬 Salt,🧂 and Vinegar Crisps in the oven for Please as i t would be very much appreciated Sharon Xx 😊
Rachel

Hello Sharon, no problem at all - it will depend on the water content and type of the Kale. Purple kale always seems to take longer to crisp up for some reason. It will generally only take about 10 minutes, but you need to watch them. As soon as they start to crisp they can burn easily and will be bitter. Make sure you massage well with the oil before you pop them in the oven. Hope that helps! Rachel x
