Your story made me curious so I did a little research... licorice is often flavoured with anise which has a similar taste to star anise, even though they come from different plants! They both contain the organic compound anethole which creates that specific, spiced flavour. I'm a big fan of it, so I will definitely give this tea a try, thanks for the recipe!

So I’m not crazy then 😊….thanks for this information friend. I didn’t like star anise until recently when I tried to test it on it’s own without other overpowering spices and it really is superior in its own right

Not crazy at all, there are whole forums on this topic for a reason! I agree, I used to only know it from making mulled wine but it’s great in savoury dishes like rice and curries.

Super healthy drink 😋. Been used medicinally for thousands of years but it’s not great for children to ingest.21°C? I dream of it being that warm! We have rain (would love to send some over), gale force winds and a high of 11°C today which is in fact warm for this time of year.

Our temperatures usually hover in that range, but it had been scorching hot for a while until we found ourselves right in the path of Cyclone Chido. Luckily, we were spared any major impact—just some rustling trees and a few blown-off pavements. On the bright side, it brought us some much-needed chilly weather afterward
