Puran Poli

Puran poli is traditional Indian stuffed bread with sweet lentil filling. Puran poli is the Maharashtrian name and if you literally translate it then Puran = stuffing, poli=roti or outer covering. In short, whole wheat roti is stuffed with sweet lentil stuffing.
Puran – Sweet filling made with chana daal, jaggery, cardamom, saffron & nutmeg.
Poli – Flatbread usually made with whole wheat flour

Puran poli is traditional Indian stuffed bread with sweet lentil filling. Puran poli is the Maharashtrian name and if you literally translate it then Puran = stuffing, poli=roti or outer covering. In short, whole wheat roti is stuffed with sweet lentil stuffing.

For the puran dough, combine the flour and ghee in a bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water.

For the puran filling, soak the chana dal for 30 min. Drain and set aside.

Combine the dal with enough water in a deep pan, and cook for 20 minutes drain the dal and set aside.

Add the dal, Jaggery, nutmeg and cardamon in a deep pan, mix well and cook for 5 to 8 min. Till the Jaggery melts, while stirring continuously and mashing at regular intervals. Cook completely and keep aside.

To make puran poli, roll out the portion of the doubh into 100 mm. And roll the flour.

Place the filling portion in a center and fold the edges of the dough over the filling. Pinch the edges together to seal the filling.

Flatten the dough and roll again. Use the flour for rolling.

Cook on a tava over a medium flame, till it turns golden brown colour from the both side. Apply ghee while cooking.

Smear a little ghee on puran poli and serve hot... And above all ingredients is for 5 puran poli...
