Ingredients

  • 4 cupsself raising flour
  • 1/2 cupsugar
  • 1& 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbspmargarine
  • 1 tbspcardamom or cinnamon spice (optional)
  • 1 tspsalt
  • NOTE* use 2 tsp baking powder if using all purpose flour

Steps

  1. 1

    Mix all ingredients in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Start kneading until the dough is smooth and stops sticking on your palms.

  3. 3

    Cover and set aside for 30 min.

  4. 4

    Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into your desired size and shape. You can use a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass if you want the same shape.

  5. 5

    Heat oil in a large pot until it starts bubbling.

  6. 6

    Fry the mandazis for about 2-3 minutes on both sides until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Drain in a paper towel and serve.
