For the Maharashtra theme, I made flavored modak for the first time. These are a favorite of Lord Ganesha and are especially made for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Prepare all the ingredients. In a pan, add the milk and gradually mix in the milk powder. Add the ghee and mix well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens into mawa (milk solids). Let it cool to room temperature.

In a bowl, combine powdered cashews, almonds, and pistachios with sweetened condensed milk. Mix well and form small balls for the stuffing.

Divide the mawa into three portions. For the first portion, add saffron and mix well. Make equal-sized balls, flatten them, place the stuffing inside, seal, and shape into modak. Use a toothpick to create designs.

For the second portion, add rose syrup and a little chopped cherry. Mix well, stuff, seal, and shape into modak.

For the third portion, mix the malted chocolate drink powder with a little chocolate syrup, then add to the mawa. Mix well, form balls, stuff, seal, and shape into modak. Use a toothpick to create designs and sprinkle with milk powder on top.

Place the modak on a plate and garnish with saffron strands, cherries, and chocolate chips. Your flavored modak are ready to serve.
