I had half a loaf of stale bread that I'd bought a week and a half ago before the lockdown began, so I did this to revive it. Without any other added ingredients it can be eaten savoury or sweet as one likes. The egg and milk in the proportions given seem to be almost exactly enough for six slices of sandwich bread.

  • 2/3 cupmilk
  • 2 tbspbutter, more as needed

    In a flat bottomed dish whisk the eggs and milk together lightly.

    Dip the bread in the egg mixture, turning over to coat completely. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, and fry the soaked bread until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes per side.

Looks good. I would add a little cinnamon, or orange liqueur. Or, even better, use raisin bread.
