Chicken Momos

Momos are generally made with minced meat but as the dish moved to different places, people started making fillings to their likings ie. chicken, prawn, vegetables, paneer, tofu etc. The dough for the momos are normally made of all-purpose flour but I have used all-purpose flour and semolina in equal proportion. I have used leftover chicken curry pieces to make these chicken momos. You can use raw chicken mince. No need to pre-cook the chicken mince because it will cook while steaming. Both ways, the end result is amazing.

Both ways, the end result is amazing.
Steps
- 1
In a bowl, add all-purpose flour, semolina and salt. Mix it well. Using water, make a soft dough and cover and set aside.
- 2
In a bowl, add the chicken pieces. I had some leftover chicken curry pieces so I decided to make chicken momos of it. You can use raw chicken mince. No need to pre-cook chicken mince. It would cook while steaming. Next add the finely chopped onions, coriander leaves and green chillies and mix it well.
- 3
Further, add the finely chopped ginger and garlic, cumin powder, crushed black pepper powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt. Add a teaspoon of sesame oil.
- 4
Mix all the ingredients well. Cover and keep aside.
- 5
For Rolling the Dough for the Momos: Using a little flour, roll the dough into a big circle. Thickness should be like puris. Use a cookie cutter to cut. Roll the edges to make them little thinner so that it will help the edges to get joined. Or you could take small sized balls and roll into small puris.
- 6
Take a puri on your palm and place a tablespoon of the prepared chicken mixture at the center. Press the stuffing with your thumb and bring the edges together at far end. Start pleating and move to the other end. You can lightly wet the edges with water. Press the edges firmly. Continue making the momos with the remaining dough.
- 7
Grease a steamer lightly with oil. Place the momos and steam for 8 minutes. Do not steam for more time otherwise the outer covering will get hard and dry.
- 8
Delicious Chicken Momos are ready. Serve them immediately with hot chilli garlic sauce/chutney.
