Green mung dal

Green moong dal is comfort food at my home. Either have it with rice or hot rotis along with a liberal dose of ghee, or you can just have it as a dal soup with a dash of squeezed lemon.

Green moong dal is comfort food at my home. Either have it with rice or hot rotis along with a liberal dose of ghee, or you can just have it as a dal soup with a dash of squeezed lemon.

Wash the dal thoroughly in water then soak it in a bowl of water for 10 minutes.

Then boil or pressure cook the dal for 3 to 4 whistles. To this add haldi powder, and slit green chillies.

When the dal is cooked proper. Remove from fire and set it aside.

Then in another vessel add ghee or oil and let it heat to this add cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds splutter add the garlic pieces and lightly brown them. Then add the cut onions and saute for a minute or so. Then add the cut tomato pieces.and stir this mix again

To this add the coriander powder, a pinch of turmeric powder and salt and stir then add the cooked dal to this mix.and mix it all nicely.

To this add water and let all this mix cook nicely. Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon in the dal. Serve with a dollop of ghee.
