Chocolate buttercream frosting

Ingredients

20-30 mins
24 cupcakes
  1. 1/2 cupreal butter, softened
  2. 1/2 cupshortening
  3. 2 tspVanilla extract
  4. 2-3 Tbspmilk of choice
  5. 1-2 tsplemon juice
  6. 1/2 cupcocoa powder (Hershey's brand is what we used)
  7. 3 1/2 cupsPowdered sugar

Cooking Instructions

20-30 mins

    Sift Powdered sugar and cocoa powder into one bowl.

    Cream shortening and butter in large bowl with mixer on low speed. Scraping the sides of the bowl as needed to help remove clumps

  3. 3

    Add vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly.

  4. 4

    Add lemon juice. This will help reduce sweetness

  5. 5

    Add dry ingredient mixture to butter and shortening a 1/4 cup at a time. Scraping the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula as often as needed. DO NOT OVER MIX! THE BUTTER WILL MELT!

    As frosting thickens add milk to smooth it out

    If frosting is too sweet add lemon juice to taste

  8. 8

    All done!! Enjoy!!

@ronzy1 in case you never found the answer, shortening is basically a solid form of oil. Grease cookie sheets and cake pans with it and use it in recipies. You'll find it where you find vegetable oil. Crisco - in a blue can
