Jeera (cumin) rice is a simple, flavorful rice dish made with basmati rice and cumin seeds.

Heat oil in a deep pan. Add cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds start to crackle, add 2 cups water and salt.

Once the water comes to a boil, drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. When it boils again, reduce the heat to low and cook.

When the rice is halfway cooked, place the pan on a griddle or heat diffuser, cover, and cook on low heat until the water is absorbed.

Add cilantro, mix gently, and turn off the heat. Let it sit covered for 10 minutes.

Serve the hot rice with dal.
