Colorful Christmas Tree Salad

cookpad.japan
cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

I've always wanted to make a Christmas tree out of potato salad and I wanted to make a cute, memorable salad.

Just have fun decorating the salad any way you like. For the star on top, you can secure with a toothpick or an uncooked spaghetti strand (but only use pasta if you're eating it right away because it will soften over time). This salad looks nice served on a big plate with hors d'oeuvres. Recipe by cocococoa

Steps

  1. 1

Separate the broccoli into bite-sized pieces. Slice the broccoli stalks, removing the fibrous edges and cutting out into shapes. Boil all the broccoli pieces.

  2. 2

Peel the carrots and kabocha squash and cut out into shapes. Boil everything, including all the leftover pieces.

  3. 3

Mince the leftover boiled bits of vegetables and mix with salad dressing (salad dressing is optional). Slice the tops of the tomatoes so they won't roll off the plate.

  4. 4

Transfer the potato salad on a dish and form into a cone. (Reserve some for the toppings). Starting from the bottom, stick the broccoli into the potato salad, being careful to secure it.

  5. 5

Stick the marinated vegetables between the pieces of broccoli. Pay attention to the colors as you decorate the salad to look like a Christmas tree.

  6. 6

Roll the leftover potato salad into balls and place around the dish along with the cut-out vegetables, tomatoes, and remaining marinated vegetable pieces. Scatter powdered cheese "snow" on the tree and it's done.
