Best Ever Cheese Straws
I always make a double batch because they are so good.
Steps
- 1
Combine the flour, salt and pepper and herbs.
- 2
In a separate bowl, gently rub the butter and cheese together until it’s like big crumbs. Gradually add the cheese and butter to the flour mix until combined.
- 3
Add 1 tbsp water and knead to make the dough come together. Then add the second tbsp of water. I have never not needed the 2nd one but do it gradually to make sure. Knead the mix into a ball.
- 4
Roll out to 1/2-1 cm thickness. Cover and put in fridge for 15 mins or so.
- 5
- 6
Preheat oven to 175c. And line a baking tray or two.
- 7
Cut the chilled dough into ‘straws’. I don’t worry about uniformity - I’ve found as long as they are the same thickness then they bake for the same time.
- 8
Lay out on the lined baking tray. They don’t spread so you don’t need to leave too much space in between.
- 9
Bake for 15 -20 mins. Until golden. Actual time will depend on the size you’ve cut them too.

Enjoy 😋
