A simple and budget-friendly way to make stewed fava beans, with great results.

Rinse the fava beans thoroughly, then soak them in water for 10 hours, changing the water 2 or 3 times during soaking.

Place the soaked beans in a large pot. Add the rinsed and drained lentils, the whole lemon, and the tomato (peeled and quartered).

Dissolve the turmeric in the boiling water, then pour it over the ingredients in the pot until the water reaches the neck of the pot. Leave some space to prevent boiling over.

Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to the lowest heat possible (lower than for cooking rice). Let it cook undisturbed, checking every 2 hours to make sure there is enough water. If needed, add more boiling water, but you likely won't need to.

Let it cook for about 6 hours. In the last hour of cooking, add the flour and stir well to dissolve it and thicken the liquid. Add the salt.

Turn off the heat and let the beans cool completely. Portion into freezer bags and store in the freezer. Enjoy!
