An innovative twist to the simple Breakfast dish that is enjoyed in Hyderabad. In this particular version, I have used Toor Daal or Pigeon Pea Lentils.
This is a yummy variation to the regular Daal that is as good and satiating too.
Khadi in Hyderabad simply means firm. A Daal that is firm yet soft and cooked. But not mushy and too soft. As you all can see in the pics, the Lentils are cooked soft yet firm. Hence it's called as Khadi Daal. Mostly it's made with Red Lentils or Masoor, Yellow Lentils or Moong Daal and also Black Gram or Urad Daal. This one here is an amazing version with Tuvar Daal.
Made with simple pantry staples, it's the best. I have shared so many variations of this flavourful and aromatic Daal from my City.
This one is an amazing addition to that list. Tuvar or Toor Daal is a healthy one and every bit a must have option at least once a Week.

Steps
- 1
Wash and soak the Lentils in enough drinking water for at least 2 to 3 hours. Keep it aside. In the meantime, heat Oil and saute Ginger garlic paste with chopped Onions. After a bit of sauteeing, add Tomatoes and the rest of the spices.
- 2
Cover and cook on a low heat until done with the Tomatoes being soft and mushy. Mix well and now finally add the Lentils along with the water in which they have been soaked. Keep the heat on a medium high and adjust Salt at this stage. Also add in chopped Coriander Leaves. Cover and cook until it is done. The water is enough for it's cooking as these Lentils get cooked pretty much easily.
- 3
Relish! Serve hot with Phulkas and Chapatis. It tastes yum with any of the Indian Breads. However if desired, it can be enjoyed with simple boiled Rice too alongside some Poppadoms and Salad. Enjoy!
