Irmik Helvası (Semolina Halva)
A very simple & common Turkish dessert, enjoyed throughout the year!
Steps
- 1
Start melting the butter in your pan.
- 2
Start roasting your pine nuts in the butter.
- 3
Once the nuts are roasted, add your semolina in.
- 4
Cook your mixture with low heat for 20 minutes, mixing it the whole time.
- 5
While your semolina is cooking, mix your water, milk and sugar in a saucepan. After mixing throughly, leave on low heat.
- 6
Once your semolina is cooked, slowly pour your sweet mixture into the pan. The whole thing will start to boil- that’s normal! Mix well until the mixture has the consistency of mud (yum!).
- 7
Cover your mixture and let sit in low heat for 10 minutes.
- 8
And you are done! The traditional way to serve it is to use a mold to give it a dome shape (it is very malleable!), but you can serve it as is. Put some cinnamon on it, or even ice cream! You can serve it hot or cold, it’s great both ways. Happy cooking!
