Cooking Instructions

These are all the ingredients you need!

Remove the pits from the umeboshi and chop them finely on a cutting board.

Mix in the bonito flakes, soy sauce, and MSG, then chop together a bit more.

Mix into the rice and shape into rice balls. All done!

If you like, wrap with nori or shiso leaves, or sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Try using this mix in other dishes besides rice balls!

I decided to upload this recipe because ever since I've moved to mainland Japan, it's been a great hit at parties and for our Sport's Day bentos. By the way, we call canned meat like Spam "pork" in Okinawa.You can buy a "Hormel Spam Musubi Maker" online on sites like Amazon, though these were of course made as onigiri rice balls originally.
