★Lazy Yakitori★ No Skewers! Chicken Thighs and Scallions

Since we end up taking the chicken off the skewers anyway, why not just skip them from the start? That’s how this recipe came to be!
Recipe background:
My family says, “It feels more authentic with skewers,” but honestly, this way is so much easier for the cook! The easier it is, the more often it shows up on our dinner table—so I hope they don’t mind. Sometimes I’ll make it the traditional way with skewers, though!

- 1
In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the yakitori sauce and set aside.
- 2
Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and place in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon sake, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Massage into the chicken and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- 3

- 5
Cut the scallions into 1 to 1 1/4 inch (2–3 cm) pieces.
- 6
Heat a frying pan and add a little vegetable oil. Add the marinated chicken and scallions, cover with a lid, and cook for a few minutes.
- 7
Once the chicken and scallions are nicely browned, flip them over and cook uncovered.
- 8
Wipe away any excess oil and liquid from the pan with a paper towel.
- 9
Stir the yakitori sauce again, then pour it into the pan. Mix everything together with a spatula until the sauce thickens, then turn off the heat.
- 10
★ Serve the finished chicken over rice for a delicious yakitori rice bowl!

Lazy Yakitori (Grilled Chicken)! What? The Skewer's Missing! Lazy Yakitori (Grilled Chicken)! What? The Skewer's Missing!
My family says "It looks more like the real thing if it's on a skewer..." but as the person making it, this is way easier! If it's easy, I'll be made more often, so they'll have to live with the lack of skewers.I do occasionally skewer the meat the proper way though. If you grill the chicken for too long, it will get tough, so just cook it enough.Adjust the amount of katakuriko to make the sauce as thick as you like.(If you think it needs to be thicker, put it back in the frying pan with katakuriko dissolved in water and adjust.) I usually make salted yakitori by skewering chicken pieces and cooking them on a grill.I figured that you could cook them easily on a frying pan without the skewers and gave it a try.I picked up some tricks from another user's yakitori recipe.Seasoning the chicken makes it more likely to burn, so keep a close eye on it while cooking and adjust the heat as necessary. I wanted something cheap yet fulfilling for my kids who love yakitori. They ate it all up.Be careful not to over-boil, as this will toughen the meat. After the chicken is cooked and chopped, you may put it back in the sauce. This is good for times when the meat is still not completely cooked through. You can also put garlic in the oil when frying the chicken. For 4 servings. Recipe by Mamaushi cookpad.japan -

I was trying to think of a recipe to use chicken. I didn't feel like making fried chicken or chicken steak... so I went with yakitori!I recommend shaking the pan instead of using a spatula in Step 5, because the Japanese leek falls apart easily. For 2-3 servings. Recipe by *Anna* cookpad.japan -
Easy Yakitori at Home Easy Yakitori at Home
My family loves yakitori. Since there are lots of hungry boys in my family, it can get expensive to eat out. That's why we try to make it at home. Please adjust the sweetness of the sauce. When the chicken is freshly cooked, dip in the sauce. It prevents the chicken from getting dry. The oil that drips off the chicken when you dip the skewers in it gradually adds flavor to the sauce. You can pour the leftover sauce on top later, use it for a stir-fry, or pour it over rice. For 30 skewers. Recipe by Keikunno okusan cookpad.japan -

I always make this with chicken thighs, but I thought if I could make it in the salted chicken style then chicken breasts could also become nice and tender.Since you flour the chicken breasts when you add the sauce it'll develop a creamy thickness.Peppering the meat before applying the flour gives it a more developed taste.
