Lakadong Turmeric is a super beneficial one with the highest percentage of Curcumin in it. Due to it's high Curcumin content and antioxidant properties, it is not only the best Turmeric for face and skin but for the overall health due to the benefits it has to offer. It has anti inflammatory properties that help prevent Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid conditions. Of the 11 districts of Meghalaya State, Lakadong grows in a small region in Jaintia Hills. Compared to the other varieties of Turmeric, it has almost as high as upto 8% of Curcumin. That's the reason why this is super beneficial to the body. It can be used in daily cooking. Stews, Salads, Soups, Curries, Gravies, Pulao etc are a few dishes that can be made. It can be used for many a different recipes and amazing dishes.

This Hyderabadi style Khichdi, actually Masala Khichdi is one such innovative twist that I had given to it today for Breakfast. I had made it in Hyderabadi style but it is not plain. It is made with Tomatoes and other spices. Our style of making Khichdi is little bit different than the other parts of the Country and it's not mushy or soft. It is rather just like a Pulao and is relished for Breakfast mostly and even for Dinners on a weekend. Plus this one has 4 different Lentils used by me for flavour and texture both. The colour is just so captivating too with Lakadong. You will love it for sure.

Steps

30-35 minutes
  1. 1

First of all, soak the lentils after washing thoroughly for at least 2-3 hours or overnight for best results. Just an hour before cooking, soak rice separately or add it to the same bowl with the lentils. Now in a non-stick pot, heat ghee or oil or a combination of both and add the ginger garlic paste and the sliced onions to it. Saute it for a few minutes until the raw smell fades away on a low heat.

Add the whole garam masalas one by one. Also add the garam masala, red chilli, coriander, cumin and the lukadong turmeric powders along with whole green chillies and coriander leaves. Also add chopped tomatoes now and cook until mushy and soft. After done, add the soaked rice and the lentils.

  3. 3

Saute for a minute and then add water as required along with salt. For the first 10 minutes, let it cook on a high flame stirring in between to mix everything well. After 10 minutes, lower the flame and cover. In between just keep mixing it gently once or twice. That's it. It gets done pretty quickly. Yum!

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
