Chicken Achari is a super delicious and delightful gravy that is loved by many. This Chicken Achari is a simple one made with homemade Achari masala. This non-Veg gravy can be made with Lamb and Beef too. It's a perfect choice for family get-togethers, Dinners and special occasions. It goes well with both Rice and Rotis. It would be a complete meal with some freshly made Salad on the table.

The best part is that it gets done very quickly and is a hassle free dish. A one pot yummy variation that can be relished with families and friends. Everyone would love it. Pulaos, Cumin Rice, Puris, Parathas, Naans etc can be made and relished with this amazing gravy. The process of making it might differ. But the taste and texture both would remain the same for all because of the specific Achari or Pickle masala used in it. That's the reason why it's a popular one on everyone's menu. Infact some even make a quicker version of it with Pickle added to it directly, either Lemon or Mango. That too is a great option for making Achari Murgh or Gosht. However it's just an option. You can choose either ways of making it. Let's get started then.

Steps

35-40 minutes
  1. 1

In a deep cooking pot, heat oil or ghee. Add mustard seeds and the curry leaves. Let them splutter for a while, then add the chopped onions. Saute these for 3-4 minutes and then add the chopped tomatoes too. Cook all until mushy and soft for further 3-4 minutes.

  2. 2

Next is to add chicken bone-in along with ginger garlic green chilli paste. Saute it for 4 to 5 minutes on a high heat. Then lower the heat and allow it to cook with a lid on.

  3. 3

Then add the whipped curd along with red chilli and turmeric powders. The flame should be on a low. Simmer for a good 10-12 minutes on a low until done. The raw smell should fade away completely and it must be roasted well.

  4. 4

The masalas listed under achari masala should be roasted and then powdered. I store this masala for about 2 months so that's it's handy. Add one to two tablespoons of this masala into the wok. Cover and simmer for 5-6 minutes.

  5. 5

As we add both the curd and the tomatoes, water gets released. So do not add any water and let the chicken get cooked in it's own juices. The consistency of the gravy can be according to one's own wish. In about 30 to 35 minutes, it will be ready to serve.

  6. 6

I had roasted it well so it would be similar to that of a thick gravy. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or rotis. Enjoy!

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
