Legumes, fruits , green leafy vegetables, lentils help in reducing the risk of breast cancer.There are many recipes on You Tube which emphasizes on protein rich diet , no refined flour , limited intake of sugar & use of whole grains like bajra , jowar , ragi which helps in strengthening immunity.

Breast cancer continues to be one of the common factors affecting women globally & India is no exception. Awareness is vital but action is more powerful. Food , fitness & stress , women can significantly reduce the risk of breast cancer. While genetics play a role , researchers show that breast cancer is linked to lifestyle & environmental factors. Food is one of the most potent tool against a disease. A balanced diet rich in antioxidants , fiber & healthy fats prevents breast cancer.

Load on Plants : vegetables , Whole grains , legumes, lentils , fruits , foods rich in good fats like Omega 3 acids for eg walnuts , flaxseeds & fish . Avoid red meat & limit sugar & drink plenty of water . Avoid putting on weight after menopause which also plays a vital role in breast cancer .

Route7in screening , regular memograms for women over 40 , women with case history should be extra cautious. So from this OCTOBER let us be extra careful. PREVENTION IS BEST .

Ingredients

45 minutes
2 -3 serves
  • 1 cupRajma (small variety)
  • 2 cupsroughly chopped tomatoes
  • 3 tbspoil
  • 1/2 cupgrated onions
  • 1 tbspgreen chilli - ginger - garlic paste
  • 1 tspred chilli powder
  • 1 tspRajma masala (store bought) I have used Everest Rajma Masala)
  • Salt to taste
  • Steamed Rice -- A Plant Based Grain : 👇
  • 1 cupBasmati rice
  • 2 1/2 cupshot water
  • 1bay leaf
  • 2cardamoms
  • 1cinnamon stick
  • A fewdrops of lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Other ingredients :.👇
  • Coriander to sprinkle on the curry & rice
  • Lemon wedges
  • Onion rings to decorate the dish

Steps

    Thoroughly wash the Rajma under running water for 3 - 4 times. Soak them in water for 7 - 8 hours or overnight.

    Next morning, drain the soaked water. Add fresh water & pressure cook them upto 4 whistles.

    Open the pressure cooker once the air is released. Drain the boiled rajma water & do not discard the water but keep it aside for later use.

    Combien roughly chopped tomatoes and 1 cup water & cook them in a deep pan, for 8 - 10 minutes or till tomatoes become soft.

    Cool the tomatoes. Blend them in a mixer to a smooth pulp. Keep aside.

    Take oil in a pan & heat it till warm. Add the grated onions & saute for 1/2 a minute. Add green chilli - ginger - garlic paste & red chilli powder. Add 2 tbsp of water & cook till oil is released, for 2 - 3 minutes.

    Add boiled rajma, tomato pulp, rajma masala & salt. Mix very well & cook the curry for 3 - 4 minutes. Garnish with onion rings, ginger juliennes & chopped coriander. Serve hot with steamed rice

    Steamed rice : Wash the Basmatu rice & soak it for 30 minutes.

    Heat water in a pan & add bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon stick & salt. Add the soaked & drained rice in the boiling water. Stir. Add a few drops of lemon juice in the boiling rice (for whiteness)

    Once the rice is cooked, drain the water & keep the rice covered till serving time.

    Line a plate with Rajma curry & steamed rice. Garnish with onion rings, coriander & lemon wedges. Serve hot.

Tips

1. On soaking , Rajma will double in quantity.
2.Tomato pulp is chunky whereas puree is with a smooth texture as it is strained.This recipe calls for chunky texture.
3. Steamed rice is a plant based grain which ideally goes with Rajma Curry as both are plant based.
