Crispy Nigerian Plantain Chips (Golden & Crunchy Snack)

Growing up, plantain chips were everywhere — roadside vendors, school snack bags, family get-togethers. That irresistible crunch is pure nostalgia for me. What makes mine special? I slice them thin, season just right, and fry them to that perfect deep golden colour — no sogginess, just crunch in every bite. My favourite way to eat them is straight from the bowl while they're still warm, maybe with a cold drink on the side. Simple, addictive, and so very Nigerian.

Steps
- 1
Prep the plantains
Wash and peel the plantains, then slice them thinly and evenly into your desired shape. Even slices ensure uniform frying. - 2
Season
Place the slices in a bowl, sprinkle with salt and toss well to coat evenly. - 3
Fry to golden perfection
Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the plantain slices in a single layer. Fry, stirring gently from time to time, until both sides are evenly golden and crispy. Remove from heat and drain on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. - 4
Cool & serve
Allow to cool completely before packaging or serving. They crisp up even more as they cool!
Tips
Use semi or unripe plantains for the best crunch.
Slice thin and even.
Make sure oil is hot enough before frying.
Don't overcrowd the pan.
Drain on a paper towel after frying.
