Snake Gourd might appear as a cross between a Bottle Gourd and Ridge Gourd, IMHO.
This humble vegetable needs to be peeled, seeds removed and the remaining flesh chopped. You can then flavour it with the spices you like. I made a dal out of it. It was hassle free and easy.

  1. 2Snake Gourds . Medium Size ... [ Peeled , cored and diced
  2. 1Tomato . Medium Size ... [ Chopped
  3. 1onion ... Small . [ finely chopped
  4. 1chilly .. . Green [ Chopped
  5. 4 CupsTuvar Dal water [split pigeon peas]- Soaked in warm 3 /..
  6. Salt .
  7. 1 TspTurmeric powder ... .
  8. 1 TspChilly chilly Red powder [ Adjust if the green is too hot ....
  9. 1 TbspGhee ....
  10. 1 TspJeera ... .
  11. pinchasafoetida of . A or hing
  12. OptionalLemon juice . [

Steps

  1. 1

    Boil the soaked dal and snake gourd with some salt and turmeric in a pressure cooker. [2 whistles on full flame and 2 on slow flame.

  2. 2

    In a pan, heat the ghee and add the jeera and green chilly.

  3. 3

    Add the onion and cook till it is translucent.

  4. 4

    Add the tomatoes and some salt.

  5. 5

    Pour the boiled dal in the pan and stir until it is amalgamated.

  6. 6

    Cover the pan and cook it for 3-4 min or until the froth of the dal disappears.

  7. 7

    Serve with Chapati, paratha, bhakri or steam rice.
