Middle Eastern cuisine is out of this world! The smell of garlic and fresh baked pita is to die for! Don't get me wrong, Asian cuisine is good too, but there is so much of overlap between asian cuisine that the only difference between some of the asian dishes could be the amount of spice. But in Middle Eastern cuisine, the food is distinct and all the cooking over charcoal is just AMAZING. Well today I decided to go with a Middle Eastern theme for lunch. My mom always made hummus at home, and though Indians, when there is hummus, warm pita bread, salad and some grilled chicken, we were always happy! I haven't gotten Kingsley exposed to Middle-Eastern food yet and seriously even though there are so many arabic influenced restaurants around in NZ, they are so not there!
Hummus is pretty easy because you don't have any boiling or frying. You just need a mixer! Hummus though middle eastern is found all over the world and is just the perfect dip for a veggie spread. When I arrived in the US, I was 17 and during my first trip to the supermarket, I was humored by the ready made hummus sold at Trader Joes. The store bought ones can be fancy because there is red pepper hummus and artichoke hummus and what not. They taste good and are addictive, but if you haven't eaten some real home-made hummus, then you haven't eaten hummus at all

Steps

  1. 1

In a blender, empty the can of beans and blend to a smooth paste

  2. 2

I reserved the water and slowly added it as the blender did its work

  3. 3

Add the rest of the ingredients: Tahina, Lemon Juice and Garlic Cloves

  4. 4

I added a green chilli, just for some spice kick, but you don't need to do that! Add the salt and let the blender blitzed away to form a smooth paste

  5. 5

Add the reserved water slowly to help with the blending

  6. 6

Once done, transfer into a serving bowl, and garnish

  7. 7

Serve this with some warm pita or a veggie tray

  8. 8

It is a delicious and healthy dip!

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
