This is a very popular food among the swahili people. it is served in social gatherings such as weddings. It is cooked with many spices hence has alot of flavours.

Steps

Firstly wash and cut the beef into medium size pieces then put to boil with 1 cup of water,1tsp of ginger,pepper and 1,tsp of onion which has been grated.

Boil for about 40 minutes,while adding water untill the meat is soft.Then if it is ready and still has water drain off excess water. keep the soup for later use.

Wash rice and soak for about 20 minutes

Into a large pan, heat 15 ml of oil and add cumin, cardamon, cinamon, pepper, and garlic cloves

Cook for around 30 minutes and add the chopped onions. Fry them until they become translucent or dark, it is optional

Then add the potatoes and stir. Then add the tumeric powder and stir. Stir for about 5 minutes then add garlic, and ginger which has been pounded

Then add corriander leaves, at this point, a sweet and spicy smell/ aroma is felt. Then add the boiled meat and stir for about 5 minutes.

Then add water together with the beef stock (2 cups of water,the one you used to measure rice) do not forget to add salt to taste.

When water starts tp boil, prepare your rice by add rice and add it to stock then stir the rice.

When there is little water remaining,reduce the heat to the lowest point. cover the pan slightly and leave the rice to continue steaming for 10 minutes.

Serve with soup.
