Ingredients

  • 1 mediumapple, sliced
  • 1/4 cupsteel cut oats
  • 3/4 cupwater
  • 2 tbspapplesauce
  • 1 tspvanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tspcinnamon
  • 1/2 tspground ginger
  • 1/4 tspcardamom
  • 1/2 tspground nutmeg
  • 1 tbspflax seeds (optional)
  • 1 tbspchia seeds (optional)
  • 1/4 cupmilk
  • 1crushed walnuts or almonds (optional)
  • 1honey or maple syrup (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

    Core and slice/chop a medium apple

  2. 2

    Combine apple, oats, water, applesauce, vanilla, spices, flax seeds, and chia seeds in a pot

  3. 3

    Bring to a boil, then turn down heat to medium and cook until liquid has been absorbed, stirring often

  4. 4

    Note: if using a microwave, combine ingredients above in a microwave safe bowl and cook in intervals of 30 seconds on high until liquid is absorbed

  5. 5

    Once liquid is absorbed, stir in milk

  6. 6

    Sprinkle nuts and drizzle sweetener over top, serve warm
