Butter flan dish well - shake breadcrumbs in dish so they stick to bottom and sides

Place dish in freezer to set.

Steam asparagus for 3 mins.

Toss with olive oil. Cut off tips and slice rest of stems on diagonal. Keep tips for garnish.

Season onions and heat butter and oil. Saute onions till soft. Remove from heat.

Add asparagus stems and cool.

Beat eggs and cream. Toss white saucepowder with grated cheese. Sprinkle half of mixture evenly overbase of dish.

Top with asparagus and onion mixture. Mix remaining cheese mixture into eggs and pour over asparagus.

Bake on middle shelf for 35 mins until set and puffy. Switch off oven, open door slightly and rest in oven for 10 mins.

Cool slightly, top with asparagus tips and serve with salad.
