Ingredients

  • 1Tamarind -gooseberry size soaked in water
  • 2 cupswater
  • 1Tomato diced -
  • 2Small onion chopped -
  • 1Curry leaves - sprig
  • 2Coriander leaves chopped -
  • 1/2 tspMustard -
  • 2 tspCoconut oil
  • 2Green chilli whole
  • 3/4 tspChilli powder
  • 1/2 tspCoriander powder
  • 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1/4 tspAsafoetida -
  • 1 tspGinger garlic paste -
  • 1/2 tspCumin powder
  • Salt -to taste

Steps

  1. 1

    Take the soaked tamarind and mix it in water in a bowl. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, cumin powder, ginger garlic paste and salt to this rasam.

  2. 2

    In a frying pan, heat oil and papaya mustard seeds.add curry leaves. Add small onion, the green chilli and the diced tomato. Saute well.

  3. 3

    To this, add the rasam mixture. Heat, but don't allow to boil.

  4. 4

    Before turning off the flame, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with plain rice.
