Ingredients

250 gramsbutter

Steps

Prepare oven at 190C (gas mark 5)

sift together the plain flour, baking powder, sugar and salt

cut butter into cubes, and add to dried ingredients , blend until mixture is crumbly...make sure hands are cold doing this.

stir in egg yolk and vanilla essence , blend well. chill dough for 1 hour for better cookies

regularly sprinkle work surface with flour

separate the dough into golf ball sized chunks and lightly flatten the balls, this is now where I used a stamp with words "home made" on it , stamp each cookie , or you can use anything to make a pattern.

place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 6-8 minutes or until lightly brown

remove from oven and leave for a couple of minutes to harden then transfer to cooling rack
