1onion - chopped
2stalks celery - chopped
4carrots -chopped
10potatoes - diced
8 ozham - diced
2 canbeans
6 oztomato paste

saute onions in bacon grease for 20 minutes

add grease, onions and vegetables to 2 quarts of water and the potatoes in a large pot, bring to boil and then simmer at lower heat for 45 minutes

add beans, ham, tomato paste and pepper and cook 15 more minutes
