Rinse the lentils well, add boiling water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer.

Rinse the rice and soak it for a short time.

Slice the onions. In a little oil, sauté the onions until golden, then add a little salt and black pepper.

Add the cumin, salt, and black pepper to the lentils. Shortly before the lentils are fully cooked, add the rice and stir together. Lower the heat and cook until both are done.

Pour the remaining oil from frying the onions over the mujadara as it cooks.

When done, transfer to a serving dish, garnish with the fried onions, and serve with a green salad.
