'Taiyaki'

‘Taiyaki’ is Fish-shaped pancake with yummy filling inside. The most common filling is ‘Tsubu-an’, the sweet ‘Azuki’ red bean paste. Other recommended fillings are custard, chocolate, fruit jam, or Nutella. Savoury filling would be nice as well. Be creative and enjoy making your own ‘Taiyaki’. Taiyaki pans are available from many online retailers. I bought mine on eBay.

Steps

  1. 1

Whisk all ingredients in a mixing bowl until well combined. If you have a pancake batter dispenser, it would be very handy. I use a plastic jag. Pouring the batter using a ladle would be tricky.

  2. 2

Warm the ‘Taiyaki’ pan and oil the fish-shaped moulds.

  3. 3

Pour the pancake batter into the moulds slightly less then full amount, place the filling, pour the pancake batter over the filling, then close the moulds.

  4. 4

Cook on both sides until golden brown.
