Ingredients

  • 4 cupsall-purpose flour (about 500 grams)
  • 1/2 cupmelted butter and 1/2 cup oil (combined)
  • 1egg
  • Pinchsalt
  • Orange blossom water
  • Cornstarch
  • Filling:
  • 3 cupsroasted peanuts
  • 1 cupsugar
  • Orange blossom water
  • Cinnamon, to taste

Steps

    In a bowl, combine the flour with the butter and oil mixture. Rub together well until fully combined.

    Add the salt and egg, then gradually mix in orange blossom water until you get a soft dough.

    Divide the dough into 12 balls—6 for the bottom layer and 6 for the top. Let them rest for about 1 hour; the longer they rest, the better.

    After resting, roll out the first 6 balls, sprinkling cornstarch between each layer. Set aside and repeat with the remaining balls.

    Grease a baking pan with butter. Layer the first 6 rolled-out dough sheets in the pan. Add the filling: mix 3 cups roasted and ground peanuts with sugar, orange blossom water (just enough to bring the mixture together), and cinnamon to taste.

    Add the top 6 layers of dough. Cut into squares or triangles, place a peanut on each piece, pour 1 cup melted butter over the top, and bake until golden brown.
