Dalma : An Odia Authentic Food

Odias are best in making Dalma. I have seen it from my childhood at Odia bones different types of Dalma is cooked. It may be of many vegetables with lentils or it may be of few vegetables with lentils. It may be of without onion and garlic or it may be of onion and garlic. All depends on festival and mood. 1-2 month back So today I thought of posting Dalma with onion and garlic.

In a pressure cooker add soaked chana dal / split chickpeas, papaya, tomato, salt, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, water 1 1/2 cup, cover the lid and cook till 3 whistle come out from it.

After 3 whistle switch off the and let it cool down.

Take a pan heat oil in it when oil is heated add panch phoran / bengal whole spices, cumin seeds / jeera and let it cracked.

After that add chopped onion, crushed garlic and saute till it turns to light brown colour.

Now low the flame and add the boiled dal in it. Add roasted cumin / jeera powder mix it and cook for 3 mins on low flame.

It's done switch off the gas stove add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with Paratha / Roti.

Note : I have not used green chilli or chilli powder. You can add green chilli or roasted chilli powder for more falvour.
