Soak Chana / Toor Dal in water for 2 Hours. Drain the water completely. Make sure that the water is dried well. Pat dry using with a clean kitchen towel.

Heat a pan with oil for deep frying.(If you want authentic taste, use coconut oil).When oil is really hot add in the Vada. Fry the vada tills golden brown on both sides.

Crush the Dal in the small jar of mixie or food processor without adding any water. Make sure you don't grind it to a smooth paste.

Transfer the Dal to a bowl. To this add in chopped pearl onions, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, dried red chillies, ginger, asafoetida powder, fennel seeds, salt. Mix everything together.

Make small balls (lemon sized balls) from the Dal mix and flatten them with your palms, like Vada.Deep fry them.

Serve hot with a cup of coffee or tea.
