My mom has been making this same recipe for decades! Now I make them with my kids! Easy to double the batch! Makes great Christmas, Easter, Valentines, Halloween and Thanksgiving shapes! Yields 3-8 dozen (depending on cookie cutters used) as is but feel free to double!

Ingredients

Everyone!
  1. 1 Cuproom temp butter (do not use margarine)
  2. 1 1/2 Cupsgranulated sugar
  3. 3room temp eggs
  4. 1/2 teaspoonalmond extract
  5. 1/2 teaspoonvanilla extract
  6. 3 1/2 Cupsflour
  7. 2 teaspoonscream of tartar
  8. 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  9. 1/2 teaspoonsalt

Cooking Instructions

    Cream 1 cup butter for 1 minute

    Add 1½ cups sugar and cream until white and fluffy

  3. 3

    Add eggs 1 at a time - beating until completely incorporated after each one. (3 eggs)

    Add ½ tsp vanilla and ½ tsp almond extracts

  5. 5

    Sift dry ingredients together
    (3½ cups flour,
    2 tsp cream of tartar,
    1 tsp baking soda,
    ½ tsp salt)

    Add dry ingredients ¼ cup at a time to mixer

  7. 7

    CHILL dough - separate into 3 flattened disks and chill 3-4 hours or overnight between wax paper

    Preheat oven to 375°F

  9. 9

    Roll out to between ⅛"and ¼" thick and cut out your shapes.
    Dip cookie cutters in flour for easy cutting!

    Bake on ungreased cookie sheets 6-8 min

    Cool on pan for 1 min, then cool on wire racks until completely cooled

    Decorate with icing and sprinkles and enjoy!
