I used butter instead of oil and halved the sugar. I also substituted 1 tablespoon of cocoa for Dutch cocoa. made it very rich. wasn't the greatest brownie but ice cream made it worth It!

I made this twice just now. first time, I followed the exact directions. it came out nicely!The second time, I followed some tips I saw in reviews. I used 3 tbsp of milk and added half a tbsp of vanilla. I also sprayed the dish first. It still worked - slightly more moist.I think the trick is knowing how to use your microwave. If yours came out rock hard, you overcooked it. If it came out under done, you didn't cook it long enough. Yes, the recipe says 1:15. Unfortunately, not every microwave is the same.Instead, start with one minute. Check out for done - ness. If it isn't done, keep cooking for 15 seconds at a time - checking after each. Mine ended up taking about 1:45.
