Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cupspitted dates
  2. 1 cuphot water
  3. 3/4 cupunsalted butter softened
  4. 2cold eggs
  5. 1 teaspoonvanilla extract
  6. 3/4 cupcocoa powder
  7. 1/2cup+2 tbsp All purpose flour
  8. For sprinkling salt
  9. For the glaze:(optional)
  10. 3 tablespoonscocoa powder
  11. 3 tablespoonshoney or other natural syrup-type sweetener
  12. 1 tablespoonmelted butter or coconut oil
  13. 1/4 teaspoonvanilla extract

    Grease or line an 8x8 baking pan. Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit

  2. 2

    In a food processor or blender, puree the dates and hot water until smooth.

  3. 3

    Measure out a cup of the paste (mine yielded exactly a cup,) and transfer to a large bowl with the butter.

    Cream the butter and date paste until smooth

  5. 5

    Add the eggs, one at a time and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy and smooth.

    Add the cocoa and flour, and mix on low until well combined.

  7. 7

    Spread batter into prepared pan, smoothing with the back of a spoon. Sprinkle a little salt on top.

    Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until edges are set.

    Allow pan to cool while you prepare the glaze

    For the glaze:Whisk together the butter, honey and cocoa powder.

  11. 11

    Add vanilla and whisk until smooth

  12. 12

    If the glaze seems a little runny- add a dash more of cocoa powder

  13. 13

    If it seems too thick- you can add a splash of milk

  14. 14

    Drizzle over the brownies and sprinkle with more salt.

    Brownies will last for up to a week in a sealed container in the fridge.
